As a trained sculptor and more recently a self-taught photographer Thomas Gannage-Stewart strives to create. His work is a bold mix of themes, materials and techniques. Colour fascinates him as does the ability to remove it from an image focusing the eye on the subject or the story rather than the instant gratification of bold patterns, fleshy tones etc.

Through his often figurative and voyeuristic street shot photography he seeks to create atmospheric works presenting the viewer with a stolen moment of a stranger’s life. He aims to produce striking images of both those he meets as well as total strangers he sees from a distance. At times these captured moments are deliberately cinematic in style pushing the viewer to experience the subject beyond that of the day to day norm, elevating it to something higher, something almost angelic.
