About

Mary Blake Huer, Ph.D. is a retired rehabilitation professional, writer, disability advocate, researcher, and longtime international leader in communication and disability rights. Her career has included more than three decades in rehabilitation, university teaching and consultation, leadership in international professional organizations, and advocacy through the United Nations NGO community.

Her work has focused especially on communication, personhood, cultural inclusion, disability rights, and participation for people whose voices are too often overlooked. She has also lived for many years with cancer and the uncertainties of treatment and survivorship.

Mary writes the blog GratitudeSquared.com, where she explores gratitude, biology, uncertainty, creativity, faith, and the everyday experience of remaining fully alive through change. Life Beneath Uncertainty brings those strands together in an illustrated book combining story, science, poetry, reflection, and visual imagination.
