Eric Joshua White was born in Los Angeles, California, in 1971. As a child, he often devoted himself to drawing from the sources of inspiration he found around him - from the weekly paper cartoons and family books with illustrations to working with individual teachers of the arts. This primarily self-directed approach was replaced with in-depth studying of the Old Masters at an art school in Florence, Italy, directed by Charles H. Cecil, himself a student of Haverford College, where Eric completed four years of the study of philosophy.
After returning from Florence in 1996, Eric worked to master in paint and pastel the landscapes of the cities near him. Primarily in Pasadena, South Pasadena, and Alhambra, Eric would work outside or take photographs for later use in the studio.
