About

Gesilayefa Azorbo is a Toronto-based creative hyphenate (writer, photographer, filmmaker and film festival multitasker) with an abiding love of music, film, TV and literature, and a specific interest in portraiture through both photography and cinematography.

Her street and urban landscape photography often explores the interplay between sky and structure, light and dark, colour and the absence thereof.

Born in Nigeria, raised in Kenya and settled in Canada, her creative pursuits explore identity, performance and creativity, as well as more recently, a deeper exploration into self-portraiture.

Much of her portrait photography has been about capturing joy and dynamism in her subjects, as well as a sense of self-possession.

She is a member of the collectives Black Women Photographers, BIPOC TV & Film, and Black Women Film! Canada.
