About the Book
What started as a small gathering of friends, in an empty room, and enough cigars, scotch, and food to sedate an army of old time investment bankers and advertising executives swiftly transformed into a bustling crowd of energy and excitement. For one October night, 16 cigar and scotch enthusiasts, as well as those eager to learn more, set aside their personal worries about work, the economy, the election, or other matters of concern during a trying time in our lives to support the mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, and other loved ones of the greater New York community. Thus began Ribbons of Hope, the first-ever cigar and scotch tasting benefiting the Greater New York City Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure (“Komen Greater NYC”).
Just as I had envisioned for the many months leading up to the event, the camaraderie and energy of the cigar smoking community provided a extraordinary source of support for Komen Greater NYC, an organization that provids breast cancer treatment opportunities, builds awareness for underserved women in the greater New York community, and raises funds for national research. While the turnout was softer than I expected, those in attendance as well as those who could not attend were very supportive of my efforts, netting approximately $14,000 in donations.
Ribbons of Hope was the product of my self-imposed mission, inspired by my mother’s close call with the illness nearly six years ago. I have since made it my personal mission to help prevent it from hurting any more families.
Everyone deserves a second chance
Everyone deserves a helping hand
Everyone deserves a Ribbon of Hope
