In 1976, William Eggleston was asked by Rolling Stone magazine to document Plains, Georgia, hometown of then presidential candidate Jimmy Carter, on the eve of the election. The photographs were not published by the magazine, but were published as a limited edition artist book titled 'Election Eve.'
