About the Creator
In Australia, Geert discovered a love for nature and for unspoiled wilderness. Long distance hiking is a passion, and he hiked in New Zealand, Nepal, USA, Europe, and Australia. He recognised the importance of documenting his travels by word and image, and he started writing and sketching on all of his journeys. In 1997 Geert was involved in a hiking accident that changed the lives of his hiking partner Warren Macdonald and that of himself, when high on the slopes of Mount Bowen on Hinchinbrook Island, a boulder broke off a mountain and fell on Warrens legs. They survived a horrific night and 46 hours later Warren was rescued. This experience was later documented and released as: "I Shouldn't Be Alive, Trapped Under A Boulder". Next to hiking, he is an avid cyclist, and he rode the brand new ‘Western Wildlands Route’ in 2019. He was the first ever rider to finish this journey going northbound. Geert recently hiked the Bibbulmun Track from the Perth Hills to Albany in Western Australia
