    About the Ebook

No Man’s Land is a compilation of photographs illustrating two related sections: A. hypogaea albus (peanut elves) and The Wilds. These anomalous images are conceptual constructions of various portraits, places, landscapes and vignettes found in the ordinary world that are seldom noticed in day-to-day milieux. The photographs portray moments in time that possess otherworldliness — a “no man’s land” where humankind is peripheral to the scene. An observer may feel a familiarity with the imagery by means of comparable recounted traditions of myths and tales committed to collective memory. The constructions are designed to capture moments in time in the same vein as “if a tree falls in a forest” — the assumed perception and perspective of the unobserved world where the viewer might feel privy to the scene.

Ultimately, the photographs are constructed to foster a myriad of contemporary narratives and invoke each viewer’s willingness to search, see and believe.

    Wendy Given
    Portland, Oregon, USA

Wendy Given produces work that resonates in the deep, dark and unstable ground between consciousness and collective memory. Given's work consists of various portraits, objects and scenes depicting the subtle locus between metaphor, allegory, fact and fiction. The photographs were constructed to evoke and illustrate an ongoing fascination with myth and magic, to reintroduce a contemporary narrative directed by centuries of folklore and legend, and to ultimately depict the fine, delicate line between realism and imagination. Given received her Master’s of Fine Arts from Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles, California and her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from the Atlanta College of Art in Atlanta, Georgia. Her work in photography, sculpture and video has been exhibited in Germany, The Netherlands and nationally. Given is a Portland, Oregon based visual artist where her work is produced with her husband, two dogs and cat.
