    About the Ebook

    Beresford:

On the grasslands overlooking Kamloops, there was once a small but thriving farming community. Time has taken its toll with only a few of the buildings remaining, long after people have moved from the land. High alkaline ponds edged with the bright red Pickle Weed bloom, against a wide open vistas of undulating landscape that is met by the sky. The old school house still stands; it is slowly being pushed down by the hands of Mother Nature.

    Burrowing owls:

Providing habitat for and assisting the protection of the Burrowing owl is happening in selected locations across BC. We walked among the small patches of wild flowers and grasses covering the land. Discreet nests having grasses close to them produced a challenge in getting a clear image. Under constant observation from the owl, there knees would bend just before take off if you got too close

    Frolek Mill:

This small community consisted of a number of houses, a school house, maintenance garage and a storage place for a tractor, it grew up to support the saw mill operation. The one room school house shows the classic design, with a wall of windows usually facing North to allow light, while protecting the building from overheating in warmer weather. Taking the opportunity to explore and capture images before more is lost at natures rate unless someone decides to reverse the decline.

    Steam days Westwold:

Being long time residents of this small community, and having had steam powered tractors, draws one to the days of yesteryear. Visitors are invited to enjoy a look into our past. This one day includes all manner of steam tractors, machinery, and small engines to make farm life easier. It also includes the pumpkin canon, black powder shooting, vintage cars, hay bailing, threshing, and excavation with a steam powered shovel that was pulled from the Germansen Creek, and restored to full operation. In every nook and cranny are small trinkets and old household wares.

    Robert Nowland
    Kamloops BC Canada

Robert Nowland, originally from Auckland New Zealand, came to Canada in the early 1970’s. Together with his new love, the Pentax Spotmatic 35mm film camera, the long journey across the Pacific Ocean soon opened up new vistas in his new home of Vancouver BC. After moving North to Prince George and then Mackenzie BC, he ultimately settled in Kamloops in 1987. Photography has always been a hobby for Robert, but in the 90’s, the Pentax finally gave way to the ever expanding world of Digital Photography. This new world has allowed him to shoot extensively while mastering the art of photography. Having images recently selected for a national competition, local Canada Day contest two year running and most recently for the BCAA calendar and a local company calendar. It has come time to share my images with the rest of the world. My first book "Kamloops British Columbia" is a collection of images taken in the town I call home. I am delighted to be sharing them with you.
