De Azoulay was born in Morocco, raised in Israel. His artistic endeavors started both in the field of music and photography; He played rhythm guitar in a rock band at the age of 14, at the same time his father’s best friend introduced De Azoulay to the secrets of darkroom and magic of film. However it was not before he moved to Europe upon graduating from high school that he was determined to pursue photography more seriously while supporting his studies playing music The combinations of two made his dream of becoming a fashion photographer come through. Ever since then his primary focus was photography only, and the camera became the main instrument of his artistic expression. As a young professional he started working as a fashion photographer throughout Europe. In 1970s a position in Wilhelmina modeling agency was offered to him and he decided to move to USA. Where he has been living and working ever since.
