About the Ebook
In the past few years, the recession has affected many of us. In Los Angeles, the crash of the housing market was strongly felt. I’ve noticed that the working class neighborhood that I live in and drive through on a daily basis has been quieter. There are less commuters every morning and evening, many stores on the main boulevard have “LEASE” signs on them and the check out lines at the grocery stores are less crowded. The quiet streets have an ominous feeling to them. It is a reminder that unemployment is over 12% in California, in one of the hardest recessions since the Great Depression. My documentation of working class neighborhoods in Los Angeles captures this changing landscape and its vacancies, and brings to mind those displaced by these current times.
