About the Book
Taking photographs in and around the city of Newcastle one day Patrick Snape suddenly imagined the elegant and classical image of Rudolph Valentino appearing on a graffiti strewn wall. The idea developed into a series of digital montages combining photographs of the urban environment of Newcastle City with movie clips from the golden age of Hollywood. It began with Valentino but gradually embraced other Hollywood legends and icons such as Charlie Chaplin, Bela Lugosi, Clara Bow, Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers, Humphrey Bogart and James Cagney.
Hollywood Visions in Newcastle forms a bridge between the Golden age of Hollywood and contemporary urban Britain.
Comments by association, a dialogue between the past and the present.
