    About the Book

    Edit

Captured in this book is the true story of a woman who was born in 1895, who lived in a time of social change and emerging opportunities for women. She embraced both new and traditional roles, and was successful at both. This woman was my grandmother, and her name was Della Shultz Geissinger.

Della's young adulthood was progressive for the times. Though a farmer's daughter, she graduated from high school and earned a teaching certificate from Kutztown University. She spent nine years teaching in one-room schools in eastern Pennsylvania near her birthplace of Hereford. Della drove a Model-T Ford, and explored Philadelphia with her uncle Alfred. At age 35 she married Clarence Geissinger, a Mennonite farmer, and eventually gave birth to four children.

This 40-page book includes 44 family photographs, two drawings, one poster and a letter, and recollections from the author and other family members.
