About

In 1940, I was born in Newfoundland. School not yet compulsory in this Canadian province, I was not enrolled until age 8. That year I wrote my 1st poem, a gruesome little piece about sailors and savages at sea. Its few poignant lines were loaded with description building to a solid punch of tragedy in the last phrase. But my eyesight began to fail and my schooling nose-dived. The resulting disconnectedness was said to be evidence of a severe intellectual disability. I became the recipient of bullying and taunts. At age 16, I left school to take my 1st job, and was able then to purchase plate-glass prescription specs. My world spread out in panoramic view with every flower and leaf clearly seen. What a platform for a poet! The patchwork collection of my writings truly reflects the seasons of my life. Some dark pieces are hazy. Others reveal colour bursting to life through the gift of physical sight. Woven around the edge of each piece is my life quest for spiritual peace and insight.
