      About the Book

      Edit

Pierre Gély-Fort’s Japanese diptychs take us on a strange journey by means of the confrontations they generate.

The photographer invents a network that is heavy with careful connotations of semantic and sexual volumes that are both ambiguous and floating.

The duality of the scenes, the merging of cultures from the past and the present enable him to structure this work as a construction between the subject and counter-subject.

These associations create a space and a time without fixed landmarks. Yet a sense of unity characterizes the heterogeneous and sometimes slightly erotic works, both in terms of their theme and content.

The artist’s constant concern is to develop a visual language that refuses all backward-looking regression.

This arises from the questioning developed in a manner that is as ironic and glamourous as it is iconoclastic.

      Pierre Gély-Fort
      Paris - Berlin

A photographer and creator of books, with a penchant for visual worlds, rich in colour, Pierre Gély-Fort extends his love of travel through the books he designs and lays out himself. Without texts or legends, the geographical locations become the pretext for an artistic expression, outside of a traditional narrative documentary or photo-journalistic document. The author reveals his travels and encounters across a range of countries by means of an emotional gaze and an inherent, underlying dialogue. Pierre Gély-Fort is a Frenchman, born in Algiers, who has lived in different parts of the world for over 25 years: Asia, Eastern Europe, and Scandinavia. He studied at Les Gobelins (Paris) and took a number of masterclasses with Klavdij Sluban. An encounter with Agathe Gaillard encouraged him to pursue his passion for creating artist’s books. Pierre Gély-Fort takes his inspiration from colour photography and the artistic evolutions of colour analog film photography.
