About the Ebook
Heaving with colour and kept to an eye-pleasing format through tradition, this ebook is without a doubt the most visual insight into a love affair that as it stands is 99 years long. Compositionally, throughout, is a series of photographs that have been meticulously gathered from a much larger collection, along with a beautiful letter sent from a wounded Stretcher Barer back to his new wife and child in Blighty, in which he states his new found love for the 16th Century Liqueur.
B U R N L E Y L O V E S B E N E D I C T I N E is a photographic project by Daniel Scanlin that was created over many months and miles.
Each photograph was seen, calculated and composed prior to using his Rolleiflex 3.5f to capture the vision he saw, for the viewer to view. Staying faithful to Fuji by only making the exposures on their PRO 400H and NPS PRO 160 120 mm colour negative film, Daniel, visited the three main locations of the project to record the spaces that have been linked with the French Elixir for many years, that when mixed with only hot water creates a heart-warming treat to be adored. Known in picturesque Lancashire as a ‘Bene‘n Hot’.
All boasting history, beauty and wealth, Burnley Miners W.M.S.C. and Turf Moor, the home of the only English Premier League team to sell cocktails at half-time, Burnley Football Club, are separated by half a mile of Lancashire ground, with Palais Bénédictine, Fecamp, Normandy being 512 miles away from Burnley, over land and sea.
A connection like no other began in 1918, when servicemen returning from the Great War found the Burnley Miners W.M.S.C. had opened its doors for the first time. With most men volunteering from the pits to go and fight in the war, it was only natural for those that survived to go back down to the coal face and continue to fuel the nation with fuel.
Tradition is the future that is here.
