About the Book
East Garston is a delightful village nestling in the folds of the West Berkshire Downs and I have been privileged to live here for the last 16 years. 7 years ago I took over the maintenance of the local War Memorial and this led to me write a book on the village's casualties in the 2 World Wars. This new publication covers the fascinating history of the village in the 19th. century including a chapter on Trooper Charles Wooldridge, the inspiraton behind Oscar Wilde's "The Ballad of Reading Gaol"

David Knight
East Garston ,West Berks.
Formerly lived in Langley, nr Slough, Berks and worked for 33 years for a multi-national Pharmaceuticals Company. My wife and I moved to this beautiful, tranquil village in the year 2002. Sadly she died 2 years later and since then I have thrown myself into several village activities including becoming a member of its local history society. In that context i have given several presentations on various aspects of its history and published a book on its War casualties. The village's 20th century history having been more than adequately covered in its "millenium" book I Have concentrated in my second book on its 19th century.
