About the Book
A Celebration of Culture and Courage:
This beautiful story introduces children to the traditions of the Lunar New Year, the meaning of the lion dance, and the timeless values of Kung Fu.
Perfect for classrooms, libraries, and family reading, this book helps young readers explore the diverse cultural celebrations found across the United States.
In the heart of Chicago’s Chinatown, eleven-year-old Lian has waited her whole life for her chance to perform in the Lunar New Year parade. Trained since childhood by her great-uncle Si Suk Kung, Lian has learned that true strength comes not from power alone but from balance, respect, and kindness. When the Year of the Fire Horse arrives, Lian must prove her courage on the biggest stage of all, the Lunar New Year parade, where lions leap, drums thunder, and the spirit of her ancestors lives in every beat. Through courage, family, and the rhythm of tradition, Lian discovers what it truly means to bring the lion to life and to honor her heritage with heart.
