About the Book
The APT marketing travel brochure screams out loud; “Bursting with a chaos of colour and noise, the cities of Vietnam beckon. With colourful markets around every corner and mopeds zipping through the streets, you can feel the energy. Across the border, Cambodia is a land of contrasts, from delicate architecture to its recent sobering history”. “Visit 19 places, two countries, experience gourmet treats in Hoi An, Cruise 7 days on Ship “Mekong Serenity,” visit Imperial pagodas in Hue, Ha Long Bay luxury cruise, the Mekong’s unspoilt villages and Angkor Archaeological Park etc., just to name a few”. This “Vietnam” book is one of two photographic books covering my impressions of our APT 21 day “Best of Vietnam and Cambodia” tour made during 15 November to 4 December 2023. The tour commenced with 14 from Australia, UK ,and NZ (just us!), then added another 14 and then 34 more tourists later on during the tour (from the same countries). The 2nd book covers the Cambodia part of the tour. The book is basically set out in chronological order, with each day’s trip notes extracted from the APT daily itinerary. This is my personal story, mainly told in pictures (many taken out of the coach window). They not only try to capture the cityscapes, buildings, street scenes (sometimes chaotic), the delicious foods, the bright colours and overall vibrancy etc. but also the lovely friendly people, including children whilst endeavouring to show their moods and emotions. My lasting impression of Vietnam, apart from the extreme heat and humidity (mostly over 30 degrees each day), is the politeness and friendliness of the people, especially the bowing; which is a greeting or sign of great respect. This book is for all to enjoy.
