About the Book
Benches and the "comfort of strangers" are explored through the avenue of street photography in this body of work. These photos were made between 2016 and 2019 along the small beach town of Rehoboth Beach, DE. The artist investigates how we exist among others in public spaces and the closeness or separation we experience in a crowd or an empty bench.
In the wake of the Corona Virus, the safety of public places, and the energy of people in a summer beach town at the boardwalk, takes on a different meaning. Social Distancing is the new term and the questions around this and the return of something that felt safe and familiar are still yet to be seen.
This photo book is a window into the world of closeness, the comfort of a busy boardwalk ,and of course, benches.
