About

Tami Munford learned Spanish in Caracas, Venezuela, where she lived from 1984 to 1989. She has returned recently on several occasions. She traveled to Cuba for the first time in 2014 with Burlington College to learn about the Cuban educational system. Tami has therefore endured "escasez"; the shortages and hardships of a stoic people living under communist régimes. In 2015 she became the director of Cuba Programs at Burlington College. Working with the University of Havana, Tami spent from January to May of 2016 living in Vedado, Cuba. There she fell in love with the country and began photographing and painting scenes of Cuban life as she wandered the streets. She talked with domino players and children at school and playing, women selling wares and dancing, taxi drivers conducting beautiful 1940s and 50s automobiles, and people "touching" music, as they say in Spanish. She has compiled this book to give children and their families a glimpse of what it is like to be Cuban in Cuba.
