About

An environmental artist based in the Outer Hebrides, originally from London now living on the Isle of North Uist since 1990. I investigate bio-cultural links between people and the lands they inhabit.Interconnectedness of art, ecology, site and politics provides a rich framework for artistic and intellectual explorations, assisted by good agrarian knowledge gained through a life on the land.
I am interested in ‘living as an act’ and how art expands ways to reflect and develop lived experience. As lives become increasingly encoded and intellectually based there are less and less opportunities to directly connect with the places where we live. Through dialogical processes of field research using methods such as interviewing, fieldwalking, and surveying via the photographic, videoed and drawn, I collect and present primary observations, aiming to trigger an understanding of connection and present experiences of living 'first hand', in touch with environment, community and self.
