About

I have been photographing since 1972 and was fortunate to have known some of the great photographers of the 20th century including Robert Frank, Andre Kertesz, and Eugene Smith. As an artist I often feel like a weak man pulled around by a powerful dog. It drags me places I may never have anticipated. Often I like where it takes me, I hope you do too. We are a result of a billion years of evolution. We are larger than just our own lifetimes and the particular education our individual cultures allow. If we let our instincts take over in our work we will often find greater things than we would otherwise come up with. I was born in New York City and moved to Toronto in 1975. A few years ago I moved to the country to a small town called Bancroft. I thought I would be isolated and could concentrate on my photography and writing. Instead I am more involved in community than I ever have been in my life. Life can be surprising sometimes.
