About the Book
In 1905 James Kelling Stewart, a successful Greenock merchant decided to write an account of his family. He was writing particularly for his children, Edith, Charles and Eleanor and for those 'who may come after him.' His plan was to outline the lives of as many of their forbears as he could and to provide short biographies of his own generation.
Heather and Oliver have transcribed James' text and added maps, illustrations and notes. In doing so they have explored Portpatrick, read Mark Twain's Life on the Mississippi and chased Arctic explorers, Glasgow bakeries and the Emperor Napoleon III around the internet.
