About the Book
Glimpses of a Boyhood in Troubled Times is an episodic memoir of a boy, born in Berlin in 1924 to a Jewish mother, whose family lived ‘on the edge of a volcano’ through the Nazis rise to power in Germany from 1933-1939. A personal account of some of the author’s boyhood experiences during that time, Glimpses includes a reproduction of “We Travel to America”, a diary written by the then 15 year old author as the family emigrated from Germany to Ecuador. Later chapters include the author’s adult reflections on the period and a description of his return to Berlin after 70 years, a visit which resulted in a new poem, a newspaper interview and new memories.
