About the Creator
Barry (Baza) Cook was born in 1949 in Brixton, in post-war London. Old derelict buildings were his playground. Leaving school at fourteen with no qualifications, Cook started work as a photographic assistant at well known local studio, Bolmore Press. This area was vibrant with an influx of immigrants and notorious characters such as local photographer, Harry Jacobs. From 1963-6, the cocky young lad learned his trade as a wedding and passport photographer and became an accomplished printer. In 1966 Cook moved on to Fleet Street. This marked the start of his career as a photographer/printer of all and every subject imaginable. His recently published book 'Echoes' features over 90 stunning analogue black and white photographs from across the UK. The beautiful and haunting environments paired with unsettling juxtapositions makes for occasionally bleak images and often beautifully powerful pictures.
