About the Book
In May 2017 plastic pollution activist and designer Barbara de Vries came to Islay and Jura to conduct a weeklong project with the community. Working with the local schools, she held beach cleanups and workshops in which the children learned to turn the plastic they had retrieved from the beaches into a raw material for making art and jewelry. Away is Here is a small book about Barbara’s week on Islay and Jura, as well as a look into her plastic pollution activism and the birth of the global plastic pollution movement.
