About the Book
Elizabeth Lay Green has been remembered for two things: one, she was
wife to one of North Carolina’s greatest playwrights, Paul Green, and two, for
her play When Witches Ride, which was the first play to premiere at the
Playmakers Theater in 1919. Following her years at the University of North
Carolina, Elizabeth gave up her writing and her career to marry Paul in 1922.
After 60 years of marriage, Paul past away in May of 1981.
But what was left for the wife who gave up everything for her husband?
