About the Book
London is one of the most photographed cities in the world. During my photographic journey in this beautiful metropolis, I wanted to find an original way to capture it. I love the exaggerated perspective of the fisheye, with its weird distortion. So I decided to walk around the city with this lens mounted on the camera body for 90% of the time. And I really enjoyed it! With a fisheye lens you can place both ceiling and floor in just one frame, in a way that would not be possible with a normal rectilinear wide angle, even the largest. The difference is the distortion that turns straight lines into curves, which is not usually accepted in architectural photography. This therefore was a double challenge: to get an original composition that was good enough despite the extremely distorted vision of reality! And to do that, I focused my attention to the geometry of the composition, looking for the perfect symmetry of lines and things, which is pleasing to the human eye.
The main subject of this photo book is the City of London with its most famous monuments, museums, parks, streets, taxis and red buses. This is the most obvious. Less obvious however, is my desire in lots of pictures to include the most interesting subject ever: people! I love to include the human figure in most of my photos. Even in those of the landscape. I think that they always add an invaluable quality and tell a story. In London, most places are always crowded. I admit: it took a little patience to find the right moment to press the shutter button. But as you can see in some pictures, the human figure is fortunately placed in the right context to tell the right story. No matter whether they are tourists or people who actually reside in London: for me they are simply people who "live" in that place, or "observe" that place, or even "exploring" with the same wonder that I experienced in this unique global city. So thanks to all the people who accidentally appeared in my photos!
