About the Book
Painting in an Impressionist influenced technique in oils or acrylics, British artist Simon Birtall favours subjects with striking contrasts of light and shadow that offer the opportunity to enjoy explorations of colour. Colour theory is fundamental to his working process; paint is often applied in small brushstrokes in order to create optical vibrations of colour. This retrospective book includes 70 of the artist's works, produced over a 20 year period up to and including 2015. It includes landscape paintings of Cornwall, where he lived for over a decade, Merseyside (his home) and elsewhere, alongside a selection of still life and portrait art.
