About the Book
A compilation of the research papers and documents collected by the Butterley Gangroad Project, which was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. This railway operated from 1793-1933 to carry limestone from mines at Crich in Derbyshire for just over a mile down to the Cromford Canal. It was one of the first built by Benjamin Outram, a pioneer of early railways and it remains include what is now accepted to be the world's oldest railway tunnel. The book contains masses of fascinating material about this little railway.
