About the Book
Tokyo, Japan is where I was born and spent the first 10 years of my life.
At 27 years old, I decided to return to Tokyo as an adult.
My ideas about Japan from my childhood had somehow been reshaped by my experience in Canada and perceptions held by people in the west.
"Tokyo is so advanced, right?" and so on.
In Tokyo, I felt foreign at first. Then, after a year, I realized I have always been Japanese at the core, even after 17 years living in Canada.
This isn't a nationalistic feeling.
It was a kind of reassurance in Tokyo, a confidence with the people and with myself, I hadn't felt too often in Canada.
