About the Book
This is a photo-ethnography that spans a year while I taught in a rural mountain school in Imgye-myeon, South Korea. This project is not a critique on South Korea by any means, it is a critique on an educational system that is overly stressful and eager to create competition where there should not be any, in learning. Many countries are looking at South Korea's educational system as a model because of all the high test scores that come out of it. I wanted to remind people that we are dealing with children and not robots, that education is about discovery and not dictation. It is a look into the humanity of the students who tend to get overlooked by administrators and the government as just be test taking machines.
