About the Book
MALE ART is a collection of my photographs, sculpture, and paintings created during the years of 1980 to 2008 with men as subjects. Although my work includes abstracts and many other themes, my focus on the male body has clearly fueled my creativity as no other subject has. By collecting them together, the full range of my enthusiasm becomes self-evident.
Reviewing this body of work at some remove, it may seem as if I have been a man obsessed. This is heightened by the deliberate separation of my work into two categories: male art and everything else. By doing so, I celebrate the impact my sexual identity has had on my art and hope to honor all the men who inspired it.

About the Creator
Howard Grant
Oakland,CA
I was born in Las Vegas, Nevada (1939), and graduated from Stanford University in 1961 with a degree in Architecture, followed by a Bachelor of Architecture from Rice University in 1963. Concurrent with my architectural career, I actively photographed friends and documented GLBT Pride Parades in San Francisco - exhibiting my work in one man shows and receiving several awards. Following retirement in 1994, I pursued exploration of the male form through painting and ceramic sculpture. Although my work includes abstracts and many other themes, focus on the male body has clearly fueled my creativity as no other subject has.
