About the Book
In her debut book release, London-based fashion and commercial photographer Meghan Giboin pays the ultimate homage to the dance which has experienced somewhat of a revival in recent years. Its title, L’Équilibre – meaning balance – is borrowed from the classic dance’s native tongue and speaks of the inspiring images found within. A seventy-one-paged celebration of the classic dance, the tribute highlights the ever-astounding abilities of the body and, in particular, the reinforced forms of ballerinas. Image after image of freeze-frame motion and elegant silhouettes contrast against the edginess of an industrial backdrop, punctuated with exclusive quotes from the participating dancers on what drives them in their art. Known for its ability to inspire its dancers to push their bodies to the absolute limit, the dance acts as a stunning subject raising questions of what is considered beautiful and the concept of delicate strength – itself a skillful balance.
