About the Book
Hello!!
This photobook is the embodiment of combining charity with a keepsake to remind us of Japan's heritage and culture. It is a voluntary collaboration of amateur artists showcasing a collection of photos, handprints and poems of beautiful memories of Japan.
100% of proceeds ($40 USD) will be directed to 'Ashinaga' (あしなが育英会), a Japanese charity with a program dedicated to supporting Japan Earthquake/Tsunami orphans. The name itself is inspired by the classic American Novel, 'Daddy Long Legs' (あしながおじさん) where anonymous donors provide educational funding for orphans.
In all, over forty images from amateur photographers from around the world -
were selected to represent a colourful window into Japan.
Most of the images have complementary Japanese styled poems called ‘Haiku’ (俳句). Others, were paired with hand drawn prints by children. A handful of kids from around the world were provided with an image from this photobook. Through their parents, each child was given an opportunity to understand the symbols of Japan, the catastrophe that struck the country and the tragedy inflicted on its people. The book also emphasises the need for creating a sustainable future and helping those less fortunate than ourselves.
'Orphans can grow up and become involved in supporting other orphans in return for the love they have received. This is how ASHINAGA goes on.' - Ashinaga's Philosophy. To date, over 500 children have been affected by the earthquake and tsunami and have sought assistance from Ashinaga, there's much work to be done in rebuilding their lives.
Your donation will be greatly appreciated and invaluable - please help spread this photobook.
