About the Book
This project presents a cultural and ecological “remix” – reconfiguring the recently closed South Park Bridge into an instrument that marks, measures, and gives form to changing water levels in Seattle’s Duwamish industrial channel. The intrinsic energy of the rise and fall of the tide moves water through this structure, taking it above and beyond the current water’s edge. Its architecture challenges boundaries between built and natural systems. Its landscape expresses the dynamic character of a tideland by transforming the borderline between land and water into a borderland where the interaction between urban and ecological conditions is given space and terrain.
