Statement:
Darkness is often seen as something eerie or even dangerous. Along with night comes loneliness, which can invoke a sense of fear. Every sound is magnified. The sound of footsteps behind you suddenly becomes threatening. In the night, the world transforms. The darkness hides the beauty of day. It hides the beauty of familiarity.
The night, however, also brings an altered beauty. As the sun goes down the city lights fade in, bringing forth the shades of night. Through the colors of the lights a different world is revealed; a world filled with vibrancy. With this transformation the sense of loneliness becomes a peaceful companion.
The actuality of light is often missed when viewed with the naked eye. Film sees more clearly than we can and is therefore able to capture the light and the array of colors therein.
This photo essay aims to capture for the viewer not only the eeriness that night can bring, but the contrasting beauty as well.
